Badlands Contracting is an EPC firm focused on building infrastructure in the Williston Basin. Our model is to provide full integration from conception to commissioning for clients in the oil and gas industry. Badlands Contracting specializes in project development, facility and pipeline design, procurement, construction management and field construction services.

Job Summary

The Pipeline Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, dozers, graders, compactors, excavators, skid steer machines, and other pieces of equipment.  Activities may also include, backfilling ditch, pulling topsoil, shading pipe and fiberoptic lines with a shading bucket, holding valves and spool pieces for bolt up and sometimes help on the ground with some of the labor when the Heavy Equipment is not needed.  The Pipeline Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by the supervisor. 


Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate equipment safely and effectively to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life.

• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.

• Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored.

• Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor; cleans equipment.

• Practice workplace safety.

• Operates trucks of many sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.

• Works with and assists the line crew in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, equipment, and any related work with a excavator, backhoe, motor grader, dozer or front-end loader.

• Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

• Valid (CDL) Commercial Driver’s License. (preferred)

• Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels.

Education & Experience:

Basic

• High school degree, diploma, or a GED equivalent

• A minimum of one year of experience for the operation of non-lifting, non-earth moving equipment with up to five years of experience for operating specialized or oversized equipment (30+ metric tons)


Education & Experience:

Preferred

• Pipeline: 2 years

• Oil & gas: 2 years

• Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job (but are not limited to). The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods of time, unassisted. The incumbent must wear a respirator when required. Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to operate industrial machinery are required. This job also requires a full range of body motion to include handling and lifting. The incumbent must repeatedly lift and/or move up to 65 (SIXTY-FIVE) pounds unassisted. Visual acuity, hearing, speaking, reading, and writing must be adequate to perform all required tasks safely. 


Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Work is usually done outdoors and sometimes at a client facility or job site and is frequently performed in inclement and/or extreme weather conditions. The incumbent is exposed to moving electricity, mechanical parts, vehicles, equipment, and hazardous materials. This position regularly requires long work hours and frequent weekend work.
